Life on the Honeycomb
Who is at home?
The Workers
These girls are the ultimate multi-taskers. Over their short six week lives they do more work and fulfil more roles than a drone could think about in a year.
From the moment they emerge, they have a job: cleaning, nursing, scouting, guarding, foraging and attending the queen are all on the agenda.
They will fly up to a mile to find a good supply of nectar and over their short lives they will collect nearly half a teaspoon full of honey each. It doesn’t sound much, but producing honey is a team effort and with a team of 50,000 and a good flow of nectar they can do amazing things.
But it’s not all work and no play - there is always time for lunch and a gossip with the girls!
